Flexar- How does it Work? • Microwave (Radar) pulse is generated in electronics and directed down the cable • Pulse is reflected off material surface and back up the cable • Hi-speed electronics measures the pulse time-of-flight (TOF) between pulse creation and pulse return • Time-of-flight is related proportional to distance traveled in open air • Level can be calculated by if vessel height is known. Flexar- Measurement Range • Material’s Dielectric Constant (Er) determines how strong the reflected radar signal will be and therefore is the key in determining sensing range of Flexar • Probe Style has some effect on reflective strength. But since 99% of powder/bulk solid applications are fulfilled by single cables, probe style is a non-issue. • Split-Architecture configurations create some signal loss in the interconnection electrical wiring and therefore special review is required Monitor Technologies, LLC 2011

Flexar- Measurement Range How to Read the following Green Yellow Red charts • Dielectric Constant (Er) Range- The applicable material may have a range of dielectric constants, and they will be depicted by horizontal black lines • Good Applications- are depicted by the green graphic range (field proven) • Questionable Applications- are depicted by the yellow graphic range and require closer scrutiny • Poor Applications- are depicted by the red graphic range (unacceptable reflection strengths) Monitor Technologies, LLC 2011
