The VLP is a program of Southern Arizona Legal Aid that is co-sponsored bythe Pima County Bar Association in Tucson, Arizona
The clients we serve are the poor & the working poor . . . agrandmotherwho needs help saving her home, a dadwho needs help protecting his wages, a momwho needs help getting child support. They are living below the federal poverty line. They havenowhere else to turn.
And in many cases, the only person who can reallyhelp the only person who can really bringhope is avolunteer
The people who donate their time and expertise are Lawyers Students Legal professionals Community volunteers Support service businesses
Direct representation One-on-one advice clinics Group clinics Outreach seminars These volunteers assist clients through Donated services Helping Bringing hope
The Arizona Supreme Court recommends that attorneys volunteer 50 hours per year Most of our volunteers say they volunteer because it makes them feel good to help people
The VLP helps clients with most civil legal problems Among our priorities are Economic security Safety and Housing
We provide direct representation & clinics on Immigration Government benefits such as SSI & unemployment and Arizona Community Legal Assistance Tort defense Family law an innovative program designed to provide legal assistance to non-profit organizations such as divorce, custody, child support & guardianships Consumer law such as bankruptcy & debt collection Probate such as wills & estates Housing such as property & landlord/tenant law
Tucson and Pima County as well as 8 rural counties and Apache & Navajo Counties in the North Gila,Graham, Greenlee & Pinal Countiesin central Arizona including Cochise & Santa Cruz Counties along the border The VLP serves people in

But the VLP’s greatest resources are our volunteers . . . Last year, lawyers 1,221 and law students 150 donated hours 24,165 to help people, 3,222 which is equivalent to in donated services $4,833,000
To thank our volunteers, the VLP gives monthly, quarterly & annual awards. Our volunteer lawyers have also won top recognition by receiving statewide & national awards.
