Itinerary • Depart ATL: May 8 • Beijing: May 9-12 (3 nights and 4 days) Take a night train to Yangzhou • Yangzhou: May 13-20 (7 nights and 8 days) Bus from Yangzhou to Shanghai (3-4 hrs) • Shanghai: May 21-25 (5 nights and 4.5 days) • Depart Pudong Airport (PVG): May 25 • Arriving at ATL on May 25 Remark: The detailed itinerary will be given later

  7. Beijing • Capital • Population: 17.5 million. • The second largest city after Shanghai • One of the four great ancient capitals of China For more info, refer to Beijing

  8. Yangzhou • Population: 4.6 million • It was an international city in the 14th century. The discovery of the 1342 tomb of Katarina Vilioni, member of an Italian trading family in Yangzhou, suggests the existence of a thriving Italian community in the city in the 14th century. • For more info, refer to Yangzhou .

  9. Yangzhou University YZU is located in the Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province of China. It is a key comprehensive provincial university. The University was established in 1992 as a merger of 6 colleges: Teachers College of Yangzhou Agricultural College of Jiangsu Engineering College of Yangzhou Medical College of Yangzhou Water Conservancy Engineering College of Jiangsu Business School of Jiangsu.

  10. Yangzhou University There are • 33,900 full-time undergraduate students; • 6,200 postgraduate (doctorate and master) students and • 16,000 students of continued education. • YZU has 27 colleges offering 94 undergraduate programs in 11 disciplines.

  11. Famous for Cuisine • Yangzhou dishes have an appealing color, aroma, taste and also appearance. In Yangzhou all dishes, whether cheap or expensive, are elaborate.

  15. The course - SA 4490 • Three credit hours • Equivalent to MATH 4490 • It may be used to replace a course in your degree program.

  16. Course requirements • Reading: a few online articles • 15-minute presentation about Georgia Standard in Yangzhou University • Project: a comparative study of ….. (5-10 pages) • A two-page paper about China including two photos (turn in to Confucius Institute at KSU) Details will be forwarded to you later.

But you need to pay fees Debit Card of Bank of America in ATM of Construction Bank of China (no fees) • Small stores do not accept credit card • Sometimes your bank blocks the transaction • No one has extra money for you to borrow • Bring more if you like to shop in China

  24. Should I get RMB here? • Do not get RMB from local banks here • They charge too much and the rate is not good • You can do it in Beijing airport and/or banks in China

  30. Taxi • Everywhere in cities No matter what time of day, you can easily hail one on almost any main street in the city. • Convenient and affordable provided you can communicate your destination in Chinese.

  32. Last year’s price • Taxi fare for every km is marked on the window pane, every km is ¥2.0. The initial fee is ¥10 for the first 3 kms. • From 11:00pm to 5:00am the fare is ¥3 for each kilometer and the initial fee is ¥13.0 for the first 3 kms. • Remember to ask for a receipt before you get out of the car and keep it for possible complaint or claim.  If you leave something in a taxi and have a receipt you have a much higher chance of recovering it than otherwise.
