Motion:is a change in position, measured by distance and time.
Force • Any push or pull on an object. • Starts, stops, or changes the direction and speed of an object.
Gravity • The Force of attraction between any two objects in the universe.
The force which pulls all objects towards the center of the Earth.
Centripetal The Force that pulls objects toward the center keeping them in a circular motion.
Buoyant Force An upward force exerted by a fluid.
Lift • Drag • Thrust
Friction Friction is a force that causes or stops motion when two surfaces rub against each other.
Types of friction: • Static friction –friction force that acts on objects that are not moving. • Sliding friction–friction force that opposes the direction of motion of an object as it slides over a surface. • Rolling friction -friction force that acts on rolling objects. • Fluid friction – friction force that opposes the motion of an object through a fluid.
Forces occur in pairs • Forces are either: Unbalanced Balanced
Balanced Forces • They are equal in size and opposite in direction. Do not cause a change in motion
Unbalanced Forces • They are not equal and are opposite in direction. Always cause a change in motion
BALANCED FORCES UNBALANCED FORCES
That’s it for today … May the Force be with you!
