NOTE: Individuals enrolled in approved programs leading to certificates prior to September 1, 2011 will be allowed to complete their programs and apply for those certificates. All requirements for those titles must be completed by September 1, 2014

New Certificate for Students with Disabilities Grades 7-12 Subject Areas
NOTE: The Teacher will need a Students with Disabilities Grades 7-12 Generalist subject matter extension to be a Special Class Teacher in the subject of the extension: Biology – Chemistry – Earth Science – Physics – Mathematics & Social Studies
Requirements for Students with Disabilities Subject Area Extension Certificates • Valid Base NYSED Students w/Disabilities ADL 7-12 Generalist Certification • Core Content 18 S.H. • Content Specialty Test (Subject Matter) • Workshops: Child Abuse Recognition, Violence Prevention, Autism • Fingerprint Clearance
In order to work in a single subject classroom, the teacher must possess a certificate in the subject matter. Subject Extension certificates can not be used to satisfy this requirement.

EAS What is the EAS? • Selected-response items = 70% of the total test score • Constructed-response items = 30% of the total test score The total test score, as indicated on the following table.
ALST What is the ALST? • Selected-response items • Constructed-response items • Extended writing assignment • Extended reading assignment The total test score, as indicated on the following table.
CST What is the Content Specialty Test? • The test is in specific subjects • Consists of multiple-choice questions • A written assignment. • To assess knowledge and skills in the subject in the certificate sought.

If applying for certification on or after May 1, 2014, the new exams will need to be taken. The new exams projected availability dates are between Spring 2014 and Fall 2015
