  1. Title: Ancient Egypt Review Continued Do Now • Inventor Eli Whitney was born on this day in 1765. Whitney is well-known for his invention of the cotton gin. This machine made the harvesting of cotton much easier for the early farmers. What is an invention you could create that would help someone complete a job around your house? Be sure to explain your invention, what it does, and why it will help. Don’t forget to include a drawing of your invention.

  3. Egyptian Pharaoh’s • The Egyptians also elevated some human beings to gods. Their leaders, called PHARAOHS, were believed to be gods in human form. • They had absolute power over their subjects. After pharaohs died, huge stone PYRAMIDS were built as their tombs. • Pharaohs were buried in chambers within the pyramids.

  4. Hatshepsut • Queen King- Hatshepsut • One of the few women to rule Egypt • When her husband, Thutmose II died, he left a son who was too young to rule. • Hatshepsut made herself Egypt’s new pharaoh

Hatshepsut • To gain favor, she even began dressing like a king wearing a false beard that was a symbol of the pharaoh’s power • Her rule was peaceful but she must have had some enemies. • At some time, Hatshepsut’s name and images were chipped out of carving and many of her statues were smashed

  6. Ramses • Ramses II ruled 200 years after Hatshepsut • While Hatshepsut tried to bring peace through trade, Ramses did through war. • He led his army against many powerful people. According to Ramses, he won a great victory without much help from his soldiers.

  7. Ramses • Ramses II was Egypt’s greatest builder. • During his reign, he built more monuments than any other pharaoh • One of his many projects was the temple at Abu Simbel. This huge temple was carved from a rock cliff. Four statues of Ramses (65 ft tall) guard the entrance. • He is remembered as Ramses the Great

  10. Egyptian Geography Help me to label this map of Ancient Egypt and the surrounding areas. We will include things we learned during the Ancient Hebrews Upper Egypt, Lower Egypt, Nile River, Cataracts, Red Sea, Israel, Mediterranean Sea, Red Land, Black Land, Nile River Delta

Pyramid • Using the paper, construct a pyramid. • Bottom- Geography, Economics • Side 1- Religion • Side 2-Social Structure • Side 3- Arts and Accomplishments • Side 4- Politics • Use your notebook and text book to list at least 10 things for each side • If you finish early take out the hieroglyphics we wrote into your notebook and write hieroglyphic messages on the sides. Color it to look realistic and then tape it together.
