Mrs. HudsonSocial Studies/Reading *Experienced the Meritas Education system by teaching at our School in Switzerland for the last 3 summers *21 years of teaching experience * Texas Aggie *I love teaching 5th grade and enjoy watching our students grow into young adults *Married with 2 wonderful sons who attend college *Native Houstonian *6 years at the Village School

Ms. OrdeneauxMath/Spelling • 35 years of teaching experience including high school and elementary • My favorite thing about teaching is sharing my love and excitement for math with my students. • Have 1 wonderful son who graduated from Texas A&M and is now working at The Fish Gallery as the salt water specialist. .

  7. 5th Grade Rules are Cool • Show respect to peers/adults • Keep hands to yourself • No pushing/shoving • Follow dress code • Have supplies in class daily • Return “Sign Paper” • Cell phones turned off and kept in the back pack • No calling home for forgotten items

  8. Pink Book/ Bonus Bucks • Pink book sign in for infractions like not having supplies, not doing homework, talking, inappropriate behavior, not returning signed papers on time • Bonus Bucks given out for displaying good behavior and setting a good example • Pink Book Sign Ins can be erased with Bonus Bucks • Bonus Buck Rewards at the end of each grading period

Conference DayOctober 21st • We will conference with new parents and others we feel need a conference • Any one that wants a conference during the year just needs to email the student’s homeroom teacher and we will set up a conference during our conference times: • Monday/Wednesday/Friday • 10:30-11:00

  10. Helpful Hints • Birthday celebrations- bring a healthy snack for all 5th graders. Celebrations will take place during lunch. • Chaperones will be required on some fieldtrips to chaperone groups of students, probably not your own child • Look for information flyers on Tuesday/Thursday in yellow folders and on email • Remove and file papers in the Take Home folder every Tuesday/Thursday. DO NOT THROW THE PAPERS AWAY • Check that your student is writing assignments in the planner • Find a quiet place for your student to do homework and study. Place computer in a open area. • Pick up assignments for your student when he/she is absent ( Continued)

Have your student arrive on time – should be ready to begin class at 8:00AM • Try to make doctor’s appointments, etc during PE time (12:08-12:53) • Student’s will make up graded papers during PE time • Send healthy snacks and please only send water to drink • Early Dismissal days are for teacher/staff development and planning • Answer emails during our planning times if possible

  13. Touchpoints 2011-2012 Topic – Poverty Look into world poverty as well as the needy in our area Investigate ways we can help the needy close to us Discuss reasons for poverty Main purpose is to make students aware of the things we can be thankful and the importance of helping others.
