Alice Salomon and our university of applied sciences • In 1908, Alice Salomon founded “Soziale Frauenschule” (Social School for Women) – the first school for social work. • She was a liberal social reformer in the German women’s movement. • Alice Salomon smoothed the way for the establishment of social work as an academic discipline. www.ash-berlin.eu
Alice Salomon and our university of applied sciences • Alice Salomon was one of the first women to hold a doctoral degree. • The Prussian state awarded her its highest distinction in 1932. • As the daughter of Jewish parents, she was dismissed from all of her posts in 1933 and, in 1939, was forced into exile. • She died in New York in 1948. • The university of applied sciences has born her name since 1992. www.ash-berlin.eu
