  2. Meaning of Dichotomous • The word dichotomous means “divided into parts” • A dichotomous key will always give you two choices in each step. Example: Is this person a boy or a girl? • After answering the question, divide the groups.

  3. Let’s practice • I need eight student volunteers. (You will be divided based on physical features) • I need two people to work together to classify. • Remember, ALWAYS separate into two groups and work down from there. • You will do this until each student is standing alone.

  4. Uses? • A dichotomous key is a special identification key that uses a series of paired characteristics that leads to the identification of an organism, object, or material.
