  2. Developing the global competenciesof all university students is one of the most important educational imperatives of the 21st century. But enlisting a university’s central administration in that effort is a daunting challenge for many international educators.

  5. #1 Leveraging an Institution’s Interest in Reaccreditation to Advance Global Learning • Taking up where ACE’s Global Learning for All Initiative left off in KSU’s plans to elevate global learning campus-wide

  6. #2 Broadening the Definition of Expected Global Competencies Beyond the Traditional Focus on Foreign Language and Study Abroad • Knowledgeable Global Perspectives • Effective Intercultural Engagement Skills • Global Citizenship Attitudes

  7. #3 Enlisting Active and Committed Presidential Leadership • A new signal caller entered the game in the fourth quarter, and the QEP team became a winner

  10. #6 Assigning Each Member of the President’s Cabinet Oversight Responsibilities for Achievement of Specific QEP Goals • As the evaluators observed, these goal assignments made the QEP’s success eveyone’s business

  12. #8 Creating a Comprehensive and Detailed 5-Year Plan for Achieving the QEP’s Purpose and Goals • The SACS guidelines for an acceptable QEP required a highly systematic and comprehensive approach to planning, implementation and assessment

  13. #9 Hiring a University Administrator and International Educator to Coordinate the QEP’s Campus-wide Implementation

  14. #10 Establishing the Global Learning Coordinating Council

  15. To Sum Up… • Leverage opportunities like accreditation to build a comprehensive plan for global learning that commands university-wide attention • Enlist active and committed presidential leadership

  16. And… • Incorporate goals for global learning into the institution’s vision, mission and strategic plan and expect those goals to receive Cabinet-led leadership and facilitation

  17. And Finally… • Expand and coordinate centralized and decentralized administrative leadership for the elevation of global learning across all educational divisions, within and beyond the classroom, and in local as well as international settings
