Goal #1: By June 2010, LCHS staff will be more knowledgeable about Instructional Design and technology-based instructional tools, and be able to more effectively communicate results on student learning. • Strategies: • AISI Leaders will work with LCHS staff to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Instructional Design particularly in the quadrant of High Yield Strategies. • Professional Learning Teams will be established to have members of varying subject areas in order to enhance understanding of the use of High Yield Strategies throughout classrooms, and to facilitate experimentation and reflection from different perspectives. • Review and graph Diploma Exam results as a means to analyze areas of focus for improvement through use of common learning tasks. • LCHS staff will be introduced to and provided in-servicing opportunities to various technology-based instructional tools such as Web 2.0 and Smartboards. • LCHS Social Studies Department will be piloting SSDZ; the designated teacher in charge of the project will provide an introduction to staff of the instructional tool and do a presentation to School Council.

Goal 2 LCHS will focus on enhancing a Safe and Caring Environment by implementing specific strategies to increase student, parent, and staff satisfaction. LCHS Strategic Plan Goals 2009/2010 Comments:
Goal #2: LCHS will focus on enhancing a Safe and Caring Environment by implementing specific strategies to increase student, parent, and staff satisfaction. Strategies:* Promote treating one another with increased respect.* Increase knowledge base and use of proactive supports for students.* Encourage individuals to strive for excellence by being the “best you can be”.Best Practices/Research:* Michelle Borba or similar authors* Random Acts of Kindness* Use/promote theme weeks (i.e. Anti-Bullying, Family Violence, etc.)* Cyber-bullying – SSDZ policy of acceptable use will be promoted by Social Studies teachers* RAK Club* S.E.F. protocol, I.P.P.s, X-files* Laggard student letter with supports* Grade Meetings early in the semesters and/or end of the semester* Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences* Student Recognition i.e. LCHS Postcards sent to student by a staff member, Honour Roll, Pep Rallies, Photo/Current members teams/clubs/lists and photos
Goal 2 Evidence of Success: • Decrease in number of incidents involving bullying. • SSDZ acceptable use document in place. • Decrease in documentation of “good, bad, ugly” of cyber -bullying. • Increase number of photos of students on display. • Caught you being Good display is being used consistently. • T.V. Monitor in Student Common Area is being used consistently.
Goal 3 3. LCHS will continue to work towards enhancing student success. Special Education Facilitators will continue to work collaboratively with staff to develop meaningful and effective I.P.P.s which will provide support to facilitate student success. S.E.F.s will continue to communicate with students, staff and the home to help facilitate overall student success. S.E.F.s will provide educational information via email a minimum of once a month on special needs, disorders commonly encountered in the classroom and suggestions which should facilitate student learning. Goal #3: LCHS will continue to work towards enhancing student success. S.E.F.s will provide educational • information via email a minimum of once a month on special needs, disorders commonly encountered in • the classroom and suggestions which should facilitate student learning. • Strategies: • Communication with parents through consistent phone calls • home for concerns related to academic progress by LCHS staff members. • Staff will implement academic interventions consistently. • Staff will follow-up with students who do not attend academic interventions. • Availability of diverse programming, student services, and extra-curricular activities. • Build leadership capacity of the student body. • Build empathy through volunteer opportunities. • Athletic team commitments to humanitarian causes. • The use of more and varied instructional design strategies. • The LCHS Team Leaders Group will be committed to building new traditions. • Continue to communicate with feeder schools about incoming students. • Create a joint P.D. opportunity for Grade 9 and 10 teachers.
Best Practices/Research and Resources: • Research focused on building a community. • Staff expertise. • A.T.A. resources. • Student Union • Volunteer Modules/Programs will be promoted by the Career Center • Provide opportunities to have Grade Level Meetings throughout the year with a focus on identifying struggling students and develop a plan to facilitate student success. • Set up team meetings which involve admin., counsellor, student and parents when a student is struggling as a means to facilitate student success. Goal 3 • Evidence of Success: • Student, Parent and Staff Surveys. • High School Completion Rates. • Statistics on numbers attending academic interventions and those voluntarily attending. • Number of Off Campus students. • Number of Student Volunteer Hours initiated through LCHS. • Percentage of students involved in school teams, clubs, events. • Number of students on Leadership Wall. • Number of certificates awarded for leadership recognition.
