NZ Science, Mathematics and Technology Teacher Fellowships • For teachers to gain new and up-to-date knowledge which will enhance teaching and learning. • To develop leadership capacity in early and mid career teachers. • To give teachers the opportunity to experience how science, mathematics and technology are used outside teaching.
NZ Science, Mathematics and Technology Teacher Fellowships Promotes quality teaching practice Aids the retention of good teachers
Endeavour Fellowships • Fully NZ registered primary, intermediate and secondary teachers, including senior management • Time teaching in NZ: Minimum of five years • Length of Fellowship: Six months (two terms) • Leadership training • Project and host: The applicant identifies their own project and host. Ideas on the RSNZ website • Education resource: May be produced as a way of sharing your learning • Applications close: 12 March 2012 for Terms 3 and 4 2012
Major Changes for 2012 More of a focus on the person rather than the project Development of Leadership capacity Expectation of enhancement of curriculum delivery Expectation of engagement post fellowship in conferences, presentations etc.
Your Application Identify a possible project – ideas from the RSNZ liaison, universities, industry, etc Approach the relevant organisation (Host) with your proposal (or follow up an existing project) Liaise with the Host to formulate your project proposal Gather supporting information for your project – who will benefit, and how Complete the application forms on the website
How are Teacher Fellows Selected? All applications are sent to independent panels for assessing There are two separate assessments – the Project (33%) – the Applicant (66%) All aspects of the application are rated on a scale, including timeline, level of host support, subject suitability, objectives, benefits to students, benefits to hosts, likelihood of remaining in the profession, contribution to teaching etc. Referees reports are scrutinized The top 15 applicants are offered fellowships
