  2. Activity Rules of code and conduct • You should know about written rules in various activities which the referee or umpire follows. • You should also be aware of unwritten rules in activities such as etiquette. • You should be able to recognise shape and its importance, for example netball positions or basketball man to man and zone defence. • You should be able to name compulsory safety equipment such as leg pads in cricket and also only recommended safety equipment such as mouth guards in rugby. • You should be able to describe ways in which an activity or the equipment can be changed in order to make it safer for beginners or young people.

  3. Adapting activities • You should be able to explain the ways in which equipment can be adapted. i.e. time, equipment, players, area, scoring. • You should be able to explain why equipment often has to be changed or adapted.

  4. Principles of play • You should be able to explain why it is important to use width and depth in attack. • You should be able to explain why delay is important in defence.

  5. Tactics • You should be able to explain what is meant by tactics. • You should be able to explain why different tactics are chosen for varying circumstances. • You should be able to explain why it is important to change tactics.

  6. Creativity and scoring • You should be able to name different types of creative activities that use subjective scoring. • You should know the importance of quality in performance. • You should know how creativeness aids performance.

  7. The bodywarm up • You should be able to describe why it is important to warm up and stretch. • You should know why it is important to practice activity related skills in the warm up. • You should know about aspects of mental preparation during the warm up. • You should be aware of varying mental preparation dependant on the activity. • You should know the importance of confidence, motivation and determination (mental aspects of fitness) and their influence during or pre warm up. • You should be able to name and describe the 4 key stages of a warm up.

  8. Physical fitness • You should be able to name at least 5 aspects of fitness. • You should be able to distinguish between physical, mental and skill related aspects of fitness. • You should know what methods of training you can do for specific aspects of fitness. • You should be able to describe the movement of the different joints. • You should know what methods of training to use to improve specific aspects of fitness.

  9. Joints • You should know the jobs of tendons, ligaments and cartilage. • You should be able to name different types of joints. • You should be able to describe how different joints are important in varying activities

  10. Skills and techniques • You should know the difference between a skill and a technique. • You should be aware of different types of skills and techniques and be able to mention various skills and techniques in activities such as Hockey. Skill – shooting Technique – flick, hit, push, slap. • You should know the difference between attacking and defending skills and be able to describe them. • You should know when to use these skills.

  11. Gradual build up • You should be able to give a definition of gradual build up. • You should know when to use this method in order to develop a skill.

  12. Feedback • You should know why feedback is used. • You should be able to name different types of feedback. • You should know how to describe different forms of feedback.

  13. Transfer of weight / follow through • You should be able to give a definition of both. • You should be able to name at least 3 activities and the skills within them in which weight is transferred. • You should be able to explain its importance in throwing actions and in striking actions.
