  1. Darvocet (ACETAMINOPHEN; PROPOXYPHENE) is used to treat mild to moderate pain and is a combination of two different types of pain medicine. Propoxyphene works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord while acetaminophen decreases the formation of prostaglandins, which relieves pain. Propoxyphene is a potent narcotic pain-reliever [though weaker than other narcotics like codeine or morphine] and a cough suppressant to boot. Acetaminophene is a non-narcotic analgesic which reduces fever [antipyretic]. The combination of both Propoxyphene and Acetaminophene works effectively in bringing down fever and reducing pain, than if either one was to be used alone.

Darvocet-N side effects Side effects that you should report to your Doctor or health care professional as soon as possible : More Common Darvocet Side Effects: • confusion • lightheadedness or fainting spells • nervousness or restlessness Less common Darvocet Side Effects: • breathing difficulties, wheezing • cold, clammy skin • seizures • slow or fast heartbeat • severe rash • unusual weakness
