  1. Learning • is acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences and may involve synthesizing different types of information.

  2. Two way, mutual

  3. PPM CM

  4. Cohort Learning Report • Documenting new ideas acquired, or modifying existing, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences and may involve synthesizing different types of information.

  5. Writing the Method Section on BR [2.3], TR [2.4] and CR [2.5] Jong Rojas July 20, 2012

  6. Objectives At the end of the session, the CFs will be able to: • Narrate/articulate the key methods/processes used in measuring/tracking effectiveness of BR, TR and CR [i.e. smart objectives, targets, protocols, people involved, mode/frequency, , measures, and processes] • Describe what went well and what not in measuring/tracking BR; TR; and CR

  7. Expected output: ~ 700 words/section • Title • Abstract • Introduction • Scope • Methods • Results and analysis • Discussion • Recommendation • Appendix BR, TR, CR Describe the methods used in measuring/tracking Who conducted? How often is tracking done? Differences in measuring pre and post What went well and what not? Any protocols followed Filling up of matrix

  8. ~ 700 words is ~ 1.5 page single spaced/font size 11 so ~ 6-7 pages in total

  9. Flow of day • 10:00-10:30-Preliminaries: Framework, Objectives, expectations, introduction-measuring BR • 10:30-10:45 Break • 10:45-12:00-Guided writeshop • 12:00-12:45-Lunch break • 1:00—1:15 Introduction: Measuring CR • 1:15-2:00-Guided writeshop: Measuring CR • 2:00-2:15: Introduction: Measuring TR • 2:15-3:00-Guided writeshop

  10. Big Picture: CLR sec 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 • Is about discussing learning…. • The processes throughout the program • Tools used in implementing, tracking/monitoring and validating your goals • Ensuring that milestones will be achieved • Evaluating how did we achieve targets • Identifying what worked and what not • Its not about shitty things …. • Results • Analysis

  11. Needs Materials Resource/s • Writing tool/laptops • Soft/hard copy of the CLR • Soft/hard copy of the cohort Monitoring Plan • Soft/hard copy of MERF methodology

  12. Monitoring our TOC  2010 to 2012 K Knowledge A Attitude IC Interpersonal communication BR Barrier Removal TR Threat Reduction BC Behavior Change Reduce Threats Reduced number of intrusions and illegal activities in and out of NTZ Spark Conversation Shift Attitudes Change Behaviors Reporting through the use of hotline/personal communication Remove Barriers Strengthened TWG and Management Committee Improve knowledge CR Conservation Result Conservation Result Improve LHC, species richness, biomass, abundance and perceived fish catch [CPUE] KAP Survey Y1 and Y2 Field Data: Monitoring Plan for BR BC TR and CR Campaign Learning Report + MPA Management Plan

  13. BR metrics: Results needed • Improved MPA Rating [achieve level 3 by 2012, compilation of MOVs] • Improved membership of ManCom [start date, no. of sectors and total no. of members per sector] • 24/7 guarding system in place [start date, no. of hours in guardhouse] • Improved recorded arrests [dates, form of violation, actions taken, in or out, from where] BR Barrier Removal Remove Barriers Strengthened TWG and Management Committee

  14. Measuring BR [2.3]: What were your BR strategies? provide brief narrative

  15. Measuring BR [2.3]: Describe what methods used?

  16. Measuring BR [2.3]: How did you review your barrier removal strategies? How often?

  17. Measuring BR [2.3]: How did you identify and ensure what have been achieved? What have been implemented?

  18. Create table 2.3

  19. TR metrics: Results needed Reduction of intrusions: • By community members in NTZ • By community members from neighboring village • Illegal activities outside of NTZ • [dates, number of intruders, form of violation, actions taken, medium of recording i.e. police blotter or logbook] TR Threat Reduction Reduce Threats Reduced number of intrusions and illegal activities in and out of NTZ

  20. Measuring TR [2.4]: Describe methods/protocols used/followed to measure and monitor TR

  21. Measuring TR [2.4]: Who conducted the tracking? How did you ensure to achieve TR targets?

  22. Measuring TR [2.4]: Scope of measurements/tracking conducted?

  23. Measuring TR [2.4]: Was their any difference in measuring pre from post? Please explain the differences if any Before Campaign Along/Post Campaign ?

  24. Fill up table 2.4

  25. Conservation metrics: Results needed Increase: • Live hard coral 5-10% • Fish biomass 5-10% • Fish species richness 5-10% • CPUE • [proxy measures: changes in other benthic forms, recruitment, fish communities] CR Conservation Result Conservation results Improved coral cover, fish biomass, fish species richness

  26. Measuring CR: Describe methods used to measure/monitor CR? protocols?

  27. Measuring CR: Who conducted the monitoring? Which zones?

  28. Measuring CR: Was their any difference in measuring pre and post? Please explain the differences 2011 2012 Community involvement Logistical support to MERF Courtesy with Mayor Exit meetings with community Sharing of first hand impressions after surveys Expectations • Community involvement • Logistical support to MERF • Courtesy with Mayor • Exit meetings with community • Sharing of first hand impressions after surveys • Expectations

  29. Measuring CR: What other ways were used in measuring CR?
