Concussion Management Two Documents (To Read-Healthy Roster) Heads Up – Concussions Concussion ManagementLocated Participation Packet Information On Line
Concussion Any athlete showing signs or symptoms associated with a concussion must be removed from the game, contest and/or practice. • The concussed athlete must be cleared by a doctor trained in concussion management. • The athlete may not return to participation for a 24 hour period.
CONCUSSION PROTOCOL. • Who can report a concussion • Coaches, Officials, Parents, Teammates, Athletic Trainers • The student athlete must do a workout progression with athletic trainer before returning to athletics
ImPactConcussion ManagementProgram • Partnership between North Central and Franciscan Health / Methodist Sports Medicine on concussion evaluation. • High contact sports • Pretest for baseline scores provided by Indiana Sports Concussion Network. • Post test for comparison • The post test(s) is a billable test for the family and/or insurance.
Athletes / Parents / TeammatesWhen You Are Injured It is your responsibility to report the injury to your coach or to the trainer!
Serious Problem The North Central trainers are not being told about injuries, especially head trauma, happening away from school.
MRSA/Skin Infections • Infection that can be very serious. • Need to pay attention. • Wash your clothes • Do not trade off. • Immediately tell your coach and trainer • Shower after practice • Open Wounds must be covered
Hydration and Nutrition Big Reminder • Staying hydrated is a 24/7 responsibility • Proper nutrition is also 24/7. You must eat properly, especially breakfast.

Eligibility • Students must have a 2.0 • Must past 5 classes • Semester grades trump 9 weeks grade • Learning Center • Grad Point classes • On Line classes

Parents and Athletes These are coaching decisions not open for discussion: • Who makes the starting lineup • What athlete is in what position • What is the strategy • Who is on the varsity, JV or freshmen teams
Best Ambassadors • NC athletes are ambassadors to our community. • You are a role model !! • “Little eyes are watching”
Good Sportsmanship Poor Sportsmanship will not be tolerated • If you are removed from a contest you are out for one or more contests. • If there are repeat offenses, we will consider removing you from the team.
Good Sportsmanship How do we promote good sportsmanship? • We are all in this together. • Great senior leadership. • Shake hands. • Keep opinions to yourself. • Stay and recognize trophy/medal winners after the contest. • Play the next play.
Reminder Stay on the bench.
IHSAA Sportsmanship • We scored 67% this past season • 7 ejections (Players and Coaches) • Ranked 6th in the conference • We must improve our score • This will not be accepted • If a player, coach or fan gets ejection • Penalties will occur
Keeping a Perspective Parents and athletes, do not lose perspective: While at North Central • You will first receive a great education. • And you will be part of a great athletic program. • We want you to have a good season. However • We are not a training program for the NCAA
College Scholarships • NC athletics will assist in every possible way with the college recruiting process. Let us know early. • Do not dismiss DII and DIII opportunities. • Choice of school is based solely an academic decision. • NAIA schools offer athletic Scholarships • All we ask is that you make an honest appraisal of ability. • Juniors, NCAA Clearinghouse Forms. • Keep your counselor up to date. • August 26th- NCAA Eligibility Night (Auditorium)

NCAA Eligibility StandardsClass of 2020 • You must graduate from high school. • You must successfully complete all core courses. • You must have a minimum 2.30 GPA in core courses. • You must have a minimum qualifying ACT or SAT score. • You must request final amateurism certification from the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Initiations and Hazing It will not be tolerated !!
Conflicts • Conflict between an athletic contest and an academic contest, academics come first • Do not wait until the last minute • Coaches and teachers work together

Attendance at School • Every day • Every period • Unless excused by NC • School begins at 7:20 am • School ends at 2:35 pm
Vacations • Fall break: October 7-11 • Winter break: December 23-January 3 • Mid term break: February 18 • Spring Break: March 30-April 3 • Practice and Contest will still occur over the break.
