Goals Goals of the APEC Intermodal & ITS Experts Group include the following : • Reduce barriers to the movement of people and goods and facilitate trade. • Save lives, time, money, energy and protect the environment through the realization of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). • Facilitate the implementation of an efficient, integrated, safe, secure, and sustainable (energy and environment) intermodal transportation system. • Promote and facilitate the uptake of Electronic Commerce among businesses in transportation and related trading activities. • Evaluate new transportation technologies and methodologies used in supply chain management such as the tracking and tracing of containers.
Objectives • Objectives • Standards • Identify Intermodal and Transportation Technology standards requirements which are APEC priorities. • Promote and facilitate the establishment of international ITS standards which are APEC priorities. • Information Sharing • Build public/private partnerships that lead to a seamless, safe, secure, sustainable, and environmentally friendly transportation system. • Share information among APEC Economies regarding Intermodal practices, projects and ITS developments. • Develop Human resources • Research/Demonstration/Evaluation • Promote research into Intermodal and ITS developments. • Promote research on Short Sea Shipping. • Collaborate on Intermodal projects and ITS implementations.
Identify APEC-critical interoperable ITS applications • Activities: • Create/update list of candidate user service/sub service areas (based upon ISO list of services) • Re-review of ISO TR14813-1 (specific action) • Schedule • Conduct dialog over the APEC website – Intersessionally after TPT 30 • Set up form enabling online input by each economy – Intersessionally after TPT 30 • Discussion of collected input – TPT 31 • Reach consensus as to how ISO list of fundamental services could be modified – TPT 31 • Target Outcome: Any new/required candidate changes to list of TICS Fundamental Services for submission to ISO TC204 • Lead Economy: USA
Establish common APEC needs on Intermodal and ITS standards development • Activities • World Report on ITS Standards (WRITSS) Project (Completed) • Formulate and deliver new Liaison Statement to ISO/TC204 • Participate in ISO/TC204 Plenary sessions • Review/Update list of priorities for ITS/TICS Services Summary • Conduct interactive meetings and workshops with ISO/TC204 • Schedule • Discuss Liaison Statement – TPT 30 • Agree on Liaison Statement – Intersessionally 1 month after TPT 30 • Submit to (participate in) ISO TC204 Plenary • Response from Economies - Intersessionally • Discussion of Prioritized list – TPT 31 • Interactive meetings and workshops - ongoing • Target Outcome: Update Category A liaison statement with ISO TC204 containing updated prioritized list of TICS services. • Lead Economy: USA
Develop joint representations to ISO to establish priorities common to APEC • Activities • Review any New Work Item Proposal (NP) received from ISO TC204 Secretariat. • Review any New Work Item Proposal received from other appropriateISO Technical Committee(s) • Schedule • Review ISO TC204 Liaison Report – TPT 30 • Discussion related to determination of other appropriate ISO Technical Committees and any new proposals – Intersessionally • Formulate ITS Experts Group comments – Intersessionally and TPT 31 • Target Outcome: Comment submission to appropriateISO Technical Committeesexpressing APEC regional view • Lead Economy: Korea
Collaborate on Intermodal projects andITS implementations • Activities • Share information on ITS developments and benefits of using ITS from each economy • Share information on Intermodal projects • Update questionnaire, re-survey Economies and consolidate results • Schedule • Discuss results of latest Ministerial Meeting – TPT 30 • Develop new plans/activities as necessary to meet latest Ministerial Meeting directives – TPT 30 and beyond • Share information on Intermodal projects and ITS developments and benefits of using ITS – TPT 30 and continuous thereafter • Discuss and Plan Re-survey (if needed) – Intersessionally • Complete re-survey, consolidate results, circulate draft – TPT 31 • Discuss survey and establish next steps – TPT 31 • Target Outcome: Info Exchanges • Lead Economy: All Economies

Promote technology transfer, outreach/training and adoption of best practice models • Activities • Status of APEC Short Sea Shipping – Best Practices • Organize and conduct special session on one/or all of following topics: • Potential GNSS project (land-based) • Intermodal Skills/ITS Accessibility • Joint workshops with ISO TC204 • Sustainability issues and new technologies • Survey of Workforce Development Needs • Promote HRD and trade facilitation projects related to intermodal, ITS, and EC. • Schedule • Discuss necessary topics and issues - TPT 30 and beyond • Special workshop planning session on selected topic – Intersessionally 2 months after TPT 30 • Workshop – TPT 31 or intersessionally • Target Outcome: Workshops • Lead Economy: TBD
