Lithuanian Junior Doctors Association (LJDA) • Non-governmental organization representing junior doctors in Lithuania, established on the 27th of November in 2008. • JDA aims to represent interests and rights of junior doctors, improve junior doctors’ working conditions, quality of their training as well as the general quality of patient care in Lithuania. • In order achieve the quality of resident doctors' training in Lithuania which would meet European standards, JDA cooperates with the Lithuanian Ministry of Health, the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science, the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Care, Vilnius University, Kaunas Medical University, international Junior Doctors organizations, and other NGOs. • Since June 2009 JDA is member of European Junior doctors Permanent working group.
Lithuanian Junior Doctors Association (LJDA) Achievements: Carrying out our activities and cooperating with various governmental institutions, we have already achieved: • Official employee status for resident doctors; • Better social warranties (social insurance, paternity/maternity benefits, officially accepted work experience); • Increase of income; • Legal defense of resident doctors’ interests.

Since 1991, the EJD has had the right to have their representatives to the UEMS Specialist Sections and European Boards. • The EJD representatives in the European Boards have the right to a full vote according to a decision of the UEMS Council of Management of 18 October 1991. • Since 2007 the EJD is also represented in the Multidisciplinary Joint Committees (MJCs).
Quality of training Public Health management EVALUATION OF RESIDENCY QUALITY AT KAUNAS UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE Paulius Mocevicius Supervisor Prof. Ramune Kalediene Kaunas University of Medicine, Lithuania
Tasks: 1. To evaluate the opinion of doctors in training, supervisors and doctors, who graduated from Kaunas University of Medicine in 2003-2008, about the organization of process of residency studies. 2. To find out the most important problems of doctors’ in training work. 3. To discuss the most important elements of the quality of training according to the opinion of trainees and doctors, who graduated from residency of Kaunas University of Medicine. 4. To explore the self-sufficiency and activeness of the doctors in training during their residency and to find out their future plans. • Methodology of the research. The anonymous questionnaire of doctors in training, supervisors of trainees and doctors, who graduated from Kaunas University of Medicine in 2003-2008. During the research 400 questionnaires were given to the residents, and 266 answers (66.5%) were got back, there were also questioned 40 doctors who had already finished their studies. The questionnaire included 10 points Likert scale (1 point is the lowest, 10 points is the highest), the specific questions had individual answers.
Results • The doctors in training evaluated highly (respectively: 7.36, 6.36, 6.53 and 7.07 points) the familiarization with the program of residency studies, implementation of residency studies considering the program, the quality of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. • The supervisors evaluated the implementation of residency studies considering the program with 7.5 points. • The graduated doctors and supervisors evaluated highly (respectively 7.7 and 7.4 points) the quality of theoretical studies.
Results • Residents wished that the proportion of theoretical knowledge and practical skills would be respectively 20-30% and 70-80%. • The satisfaction about the supervisors were evaluated by residents by 7.22 points. • 55% of residents would like to do the residency studies in other bases, and even 85% of doctors who have finished the studies claimed that it is purposeful to do some studies of residency in other residency bases. • 64% do not have free day after the duty, 33.2% of residents have additional work in other medical institutions. • The satisfaction with the quality of residency at Kaunas University of medicine was evaluated by 6.46 points by residents and 7.5 points by supervisors of residents.
Results • The main causes of dissatisfaction with the quality of residency is inappropriate proportion of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, as well as lack of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. • The supervisors of the doctors in training and doctors, who have finished the studies, noted, that the most important in the training is the right proportion of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. • The self-sufficiency in the professional activity was evaluated by 7.15 points. 29.9% of residents have prepared and read the reports in Lithuania. • Only 46% of questioned residents are planning to work in Lithuania.
