  2. About streaming video… • Have been searching out service to fill the void left by absence of Media Center • Have licensed access to “Discovery Education Streaming” for all OCDSB sites/staff/students • 3 year license (with intent to renew for sites that make significant use)

  3. Discovery Streaming… • Includes 5000+ videos • Videos are segmented into 50,000 individual clips • All clips are “tagged” with keywords, descriptions, appropriate grade levels, and correlations to the Ontario Curriculum • Very easy to us search interface to instantly find relevant videos

  4. Discovery Streaming… • Also includes audio clips, speeches, clip art • Many of the videos include teacher guides and blackline masters or worksheets to help teachers implement • Wide range of other advanced tools (assignment builder, lesson plan library, online quizzes, writing prompt builder, interactive atlas, etc)

  5. Discovery Streaming… • Accounts and content can be accessed at school or home • OCDSB will have opportunity to load our own content (i.e. District produced video) • Local hosting option allows us to stream the video at high quality

  6. Nov 14 PD Activity: • System will be ready for widespread adoption by Nov 14 • B&LT will supply each school with a themed PD package for the day… • Will include: • DVD video (15-20 min) • “passcode” flyers/guide • some microwave popcorn…

  7. Nov 14 PD Activity: • Suggested structure: • Gather staff to watch video as a group (video will be very self-explanatory) • At the end of the video, provide time (45 min- 1 hour) for staff to go to a prep room or lab to login and create their account • Encourage departmental shared planning

System Reports • All usage data is recorded by the application and B&LT will provide regular reports to schools on utilization • In order to encourage early adoption, we will be running a number of contests on the PD Day • School with highest % of staff who login • School with highest # of viewed videos • School with most “repeat” visitors by January • Fabulous prizes to be won…

  9. Ongoing support… • A number of “lead teachers” across the system received training in June • Curriculum Services coaches and Learning Support Services consultants have been trained • B&LT will be offering more in-depth training opportunities throughout the winter
