Our History… • 1944: Created out of efforts to unify and coordinate regional environmental and transportation improvement efforts • 1950/60s: Regional ‘renaissance’ – downtown development, minority inclusion, success in receiving regional transit • 1970/80s: Common priorities – Development of cultural district, new airport • Region as an asset • Marked a significant shift toward a broader regional vision
Our History… • 2000: Board engaged in agenda-setting process, outlining priorities, recommending joint venture • Improve the ‘regional product’ • Create a new strategic affiliation with Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, PA Economy League – Western Division • 2002: Adoption of 3Rivers:OneFuture plan • Goals: Creation of 50,000 new jobs, $1 billion in capital investment, focused on 10 county (Western PA) region • 2004: Integrated, increased focus on regional competitiveness, executing business model
