What CAADP’s achieved • Is an African owned initiative and agenda • Provides an African platform for advocacy for agriculture • Offers a broad strategic framework for policy development, and opens up policy processes for greater participation • Has defined roles for and built linkages between key institutions, started to strengthen capacity • Has started to strengthen African knowledge communities: four pillar framework papers prepared • Focuses on resource mobilisation and investment planning processes: • 30 countries have National Compacts • 23 have started to finance their investment plans and subjected them to independent Technical Reviews organized by the NEPAD Agency • 20 have held Business Meetings • Provides processes for dialogue and coordination with development partners • Has started to include the private sector and other NSAs • Is about accountability in a sector wide framework CAADP: Sustaining the momentum
Changing global environment • Demand growth for food • Demand growth for energy • Supply constraints – land, water, technology • Climate change • Trade • Environmental sustainability • Technology improvements CAADP: Sustaining the momentum
Objectives for agriculture • Agricultural growth and productivity increases to provide: food security and resilience; employment and opportunities, especially for women and youth; increased contribution to economic and social transformation, including through increased savings and domestic investment, and improved trade balances. • We need to continue to scale-up public investment and donor support for public investment through investment plans. • We need to continue to encourage domestic and foreign private investors, and public private partnerships.
