  3. What do we know. • Conflict will always exist as long as there are other people in our lives. • Manage conflict and you can manage people.

  4. How do we manage conflict? • 1. Ignore or avoid • 2. Accommodate • 3. Compromise • 4. Dictate • 5. Collaborate

  5. 5 simple steps • 1. Listen and observe • 2. Identify the issue • 3. Respond • 4. Resolve • 5. Restate

  6. Reminders • 1. Be courteous and constructive in your comments. • 2. Be an active listener. • 3. Listen to what is said and not the words spoken. • 4. Focus on the issue not the person. • 5. Be clear and direct in your response. • 6. Accept differences and find mutual interests. • 7. One size does not fit all. • 8. Use “I” not “you.” • 9. Don’t modify the message because of the reaction of the other person. • 10. Resolve the issue.
