PURPOSE OF THE CA ACADEMY • To alleviate current shortage of financial skills • The CAA would assist in alleviating the current shortage of financial skills in the public sector. • To develop in-house skills • Trainees obtain valuable Public sector experience; • To provide career opportunity • CA Academy will provide opportunities for current employees to further their careers and acquire recognition with SAICA.
PURPOSE OF THE CA ACADEMY (CONT.) • To provide a pool of financial resources. • CAA will result in a pool of in-house accountants available to select for placements in the public sector. • To recruit best graduates • National Treasury has the opportunity to recruit high potential graduates from the marketplace before they have a chance to join any other company.
PRIMARY SITES • Primary sites refers to any government institutions that are part of the CAA through a signed MOU. • The following institutions are CAA primary sites: • City of Joburg Metropolitan Municipality since 2010 • City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality since 2010 • eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality since 2010, and • Department of Home Affairs since 2012 • National Treasury remains responsible for all administrative matters.
SAICA CA CURRICULUM (CONT) BASIC EXPERIENCE – enough time to achieve a general awareness of the vocabulary and related concepts of the field with demonstrated competence in simple, uncomplicated situations ADVANCED EXPERIENCE – enough time to achieve a comprehensive understanding and application of the concepts and techniques with demonstrated competence in complex situations or environments
