  1. The Glory Days of the Cigar Lounge

  2. Nobody can say it’s bad to live in a more health-conscious society. We’re all living longer than ever, thanks in no small part to sweeping global changes in policy – including a ban on smoking tobacco products in public places. While most people are grateful to avoid cigarette smoke in public, many still mourn the loss of the humble cigar lounge. Cigar lounges were considered sacred locales for men of class and means for centuries. In such a locale, an esteemed man about town (sorry for the gendered language, but the reality is male patrons predominately populated these locations!) could relax with his peers, enjoy a brandy, and of course, smoke and exchange cigars. Thanks to the smoking ban, finding an indoor cigar lounge in the UK is tough. If you’re prepared to brave the elements, however, there are several outdoor terraces and similar spots where you can enjoy a smoke. If you’re traveling, you’re likelier to encounter a cigar lounge in the classical sense. If you’re lucky enough to find yourself in Havana, for example, you’ll find no shortage of venues where you can purchase and enjoy an astounding selection of cigars.

  3. If you’re holidaying in the USA as a cigar enthusiast, consider swinging by Florida. Here you’ll find no shortage of cigar bars and wholesalers. The importing of official Cuban cigars to the US is prohibited by law, which is a shame due to Florida’s proximity to Cuba, but you’ll still find plenty of options. Las Vegas, perhaps unsurprisingly, also has plenty of cigar lounges to choose from – though smoking tobacco products has finally been outlawed on the gaming floors. The online cigar lounge experience can also be replicated when shopping, to an extent. If you visit a cigar wholesaler that offers a sampling zone (imagine a posh smoking area and you’re halfway there), you’ll be welcome to smoke cigars and converse with like-minded souls while you decide whether to make a purchase. Alas, that’s not quite the same as the cigar lounges of yore. It’s unlikely we’ll see the like of these establishments again in the UK, but we can at least look back on such bygone eras and wonder what might have been. Lest we forget, though, all we really need to create the perfect cigar smoking environment is fine tobacco and good company. With this in mind, your back garden could become the greatest cigar lounge of them all.
