  3. JNCIE-SP Sections • Sections include: • Device infrastructure • IGPs • BGP • Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPNs • Multicast • Class of service • MPLS

  4. Morning of the Exam • Exam day • Make sure you had a good night of rest • Eat a light breakfast • Dress comfortably • Arrive to the testing center early • Familiarize yourself with the testing facility • Review your notes

Exam Tools • When starting your exam, you will be given: • Access to terminal with SecureCRT • Network topology map • Tables describing network characteristics such as addresses • List of tasks and associated point values • Tasks are broken out into sections • Read all tasks before starting the exam! • Access to technical documentation • Blank sheets of paper and writing tools • Mark up the topology • Access to a proctor • Use to your advantage!

  6. Exam Infrastructure • Lab infrastructure consists of: • 8 MX Series devices (not including connected peer, transit providers or customer devices) • Junos OS Release 10.4R3.4 • Various network terminals and servers Peer? Customer? ??? 10.4R3.4 ???

Time-Saving Tips • Eight-hour exam (not including one-hour lunch) • Keep track of time; take breaks • Try to allow 1 to 2 hours for verification and troubleshooting after completing all tasks • Time-savers • Cut and paste identical configuration pieces • Know your keyboard and CLI shortcuts • Strategic attack • Pay attention to each sections’ point value • Apply multiple tasks to a device when appropriate • Skip verification if short on time

If You Have Trouble • Troubleshooting issues • Troubleshoot by outputs before inspecting configuration • Verify that the issue is not hardware related • Alert the proctor sooner rather than later if a hardware issue is suspected • Move on and revisit the issue later when possible • As a last resort, break the exam rules • Adding that disallowed static route might help prevent the domino effect

  9. Grading • You will be given a pass or fail report within 15 business days of the exam • 73% of points needed to pass exam • Can vary for other exams as determined by statistical analysis • Failure notifications will contain areas of needed improvement

  10. Now What? • I passed!! • Keep current by recertifying the JNCIP-SP between 18 months and 24 months from pass date • Show off your accomplishments • Plaque, logo, resume • Consider other certification tracks • Security, enterprise routing, and switching • I did not pass • Schedule your retake • Must wait 14 calendar days • Pay close attention to sections in which you had difficulty
