The Boot • Italy has a variety of landscapes; from the alpine mountains in the north to the coastal lowlands in the south. • Shaped like a boot, the country is generally mountainous • The climate is temperate but varies by region • Winters are cold and rainy in the north, cool around Rome, and mild in the south • Summers in the south can be very hot. The rest of the country experiences moderate temperatures
DEVELOPED OR DEVELOPING? • Italy is a developed country • Their per capita is $30,100, which is 45th in the world • They have $483.3 Billion in exports which is 10th highest in the world • They have 3% inflation rate which is 78th in the world • This is why I believe Italy is a developed country
The Roman Catholics • Italian is the official language of Italy • Most youths also speak English which is the second most common language in Italy • The Italians study Roman Catholicism • Roman Catholicism is the major religion with 85 percent of native-born citizens being Catholic • Only 20 percent participate regularly in services of worship
Recent Happenings • On February 28th 2013 Pope Benedict XVI resigned his position • He is the first Pope to resign since Pope Gregory XII in 1415 • The Vatican will hold a conclave before Easter to elect a new pontiff
