  1. Relations between the Zonal Velocity at the Maximum Winter Mixed Layer Depth and SPTW Properties Xing Lu MPO 524 Spring 2014 Project

  2. South Pacific Tropical Water

  3. The South Equatorial Current (SEC) and SOI Kessler and Cravatte 2013

  4. September 2005 – August 2013

  5. Lateral Induction and Zonal Geostrophic Velocity at Maximum Winter MLD Total subduction Vertical pumping Lateral induction

  6. Mean Annual Cycle

  7. Conclusions • Zonal geostrophic velocity at maximum winter mixed layer depth corresponds to lateral induction and subduction. • Zonal geostrophic velocity at maximum winter mixed layer depth and the areas of SPTW both have a three-year cycle. • SEC and the areas of SPTW both have several months lag with SOI. • SEC contributes to the areas of SPTW.
