  4. SYDEO What is a “Domain” ? A Domain is basically what we could call “Your own little Cyber-Space”. It is the whole thing in front of the “.com” or “.co.za”. To use an example: www.company.co.za This is a website. mike.johnson@company.co.za This is Mike, who works for Company The domain name in this instance is “company.co.za”. What is the purpose of a Domain ? Having your own domain means you are in control of your Email accounts. You can put up a website which gives potential customers a general idea of who you are, and what your company does. It can give vital information (such as contact numbers) in the event of outdated communication methods failing.

  5. SYDEO How do domains work on the internet ? In a nutshell, the internet works with IP Address. This stands for Internet Protocol Address.A domain has its own specific IP Address, but changes once every 24 hours (International standard, but depends from host to host). That is the reason for what the IT Industry calls a “DNS”, which stands for “Domain Naming Server”. This server has all registered domain names, and the associated IP Addresses for each domain. They are all interconnected, and has each other’s data. So, once you send an email, the email goes from your computer, to a DNS which then refers the email to the correct IP Address. The Domain Server then rejects or accepts the incoming email. The email then rests on the server until it has been retrieved using a mail protocol application, such as Microsoft Outlook, Incredi-mail etc.

  6. SYDEO How long does it take to get a domain registered ? This is dependant on how long the host takes to have the domain registered. In general, this could take up to 14 days, but is generally ready in about 3 days. What does a domain include ? Domains are mainly used for website hosting, and emails. There are many features that could be added onto a domain, such as Spam Filters, Anti-Virus protection etc. As Sydeo, we have one standard package which includes use for up to 75 email addresses, and basic Spam Filtering and Anti-Virus protection. There are other features that could be added onto this, such as SQL Databases, but are generally not used.

  7. SYDEO Features Sydeo has a wide range of Domain related services, all wrapped up into one nice bundle. This includes, but is not limited to: 75 Email addresses 2 Gigabytes web storage (used for website storage and files storage) 2 Gigabytes of transfer capacity (amount of data sent to and from the domain) Remotely hosted servers. Your domain will be hosted at 3 different spots within South Africa. In the instance of a server being down, there are 2 other servers available. This is for minimal downtime. Pricing For designing a website, our flat rate is at R200 (inclusive of VAT) per page. Minor changes to a website will be done free of charge (For example a contact number/person change) Major changes to a website will be priced as a new design, going at R200(Inclusive of VAT) per page. Our hosting package that we offer costs R150 (inclusive of VAT) per month.
