2. WHAT IS ROTARY? • The world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, was formed on February 23rd 1905 by Paul P. Harris. • The Rotary name derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. • Today, 1.2 million Rotarians belong to over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. • Motto: Service Above Self • Four Way Test • Is it the truth? • Is it fair to all concerned? • Will it build good will and better friendships? • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

WHAT IS ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM? • An international cultural, and educational exchange for young people ages 15-18.5 years old (at time of departure) • Students have the opportunity to experience a new culture, learn a new language, and meet new people • Students are provided room and board, school tuition, a small monthly stipend, orientations, airport transfers, etc… Approximate value of program is $20,000. • Currently, over 8,000 students participate, in over 80 countries • Rotary Youth Exchange is a 100% volunteer organization

4. Statement of Conduct for Youth Exchange Volunteers Rotary International is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all participants in Rotary activities. It is the duty of all Rotarians, Rotarians’ spouses, partners, and other volunteers to safeguard to the best of their ability the welfare of and to prevent the physical, sexual, or emotional abuse of children and young people with whom they come into contact.

6. THE DO’S • Be a positive ambassador for their country • Immerse themselves in the culture • Learn the language • Attend high school and actively participate • Live as a member of their host family • Become a Rotary club member • HAVE FUN!

7. THE DON’TS • Don’t Date No serious relationships • Don’t Drive Student not covered by insurance if operating a motorized vehicle

DUTIES OF THE DISTRICT YOUTH EXCHANGE COMM. • Ensures safety of Youth Exchange Students • Provides Training For District Committee and Clubs • Furnishes Criminal Background Checks (CBCs) forall volunteers in the program • Conducts Inbound Orientation (September) • Conducts Outbound Interviews (November) • Conducts Orientations for Outbounds (January, March, June) • Attends SCRYE Winter Conference in Tulsa, OK (January) • Sends students to RYLA (January) • Takes students to experience San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo (Feb) • Provides SCRYE Approved Tours (June)

DUTIES OF THE CLUB • Ensures safety of student • Guarantees placement in high school • Provides at least 2 host families (we prefer 3 families) • Includes student in outside activities • Welcomes student as a member ofthe club • Helps with transportation • Lets student give presentations • Provides going away party

15. CLUB INVESTMENT$2,500 to $3,000 • Monthly Stipend (11 months x $150) = $1,650 • Flat Fee paid by Club to District = $ 600 • Covers: Orientations, Tulsa SCRYE Meeting, District Conference • Optional: Birthday, Christmas & Going Away Presents

DUTIES OF YOUTH EXCHANGE OFFICER (YEO) • Ensure safety of the student • Acts as club representative for program • Get certified as a Local Coordinator with Department of State • Helps find host families • Conducts host family interview • Conducts host family orientation • Assists Club Counselor with student • Makes monthly contact reports as a Local Coordinator (family and student)

17. DUTIES OF THE CLUB COUNSELOR • Ensures safety of student, acts as student representative • Get certified as a Local Coordinator with Department of State • Connects with student • Hosts upon arrival • Accompanies to Orientation • Conducts in-home interviews • Conducts host family orientations • Moves student between families • Makes monthly contact reports as a Local Coordinator (family and student) • Helps student obtain a Texas ID • Ensures student gets enrolled in school

18. DUTIES OF A HOST FAMILY • Ensure safety of student • Provide Room and Board • Be parents: love, support, encouragement, understanding, discipline • Clearly communicate your family expectations to student (First Night Questions) • Treat student like one of your own kids • Help with challenges • Provide meals • Help with Transportation • Set Healthy Boundaries • Internet Policy • Cell Phone Policy • Curfew • Dress Code • Talking to family and friends back home

19. COSTS • Host Family Costs: Support day to day routine expenses - Room and board - Laundry detergent, toothpaste, soap, etc. - Meals (including school lunch) - Regular family activities: movies, out to eat, family trips, vacations, etc… • Student Costs - Clothing - Activities with friends: - Starbucks - Movies - Concerts

20. INSURANCE • Students have their own travel, medical, and dental insurance • Health issues should not be a financial burden to Host Families, Club Counselors, or Host Clubs • Student, Club Counselor and HostFamily should have insurancecard and medical release on them at all times www.CISI-Bolduc.com

DUTIES OF THE STUDENT • Represent Rotary and their native country; be a good ambassador • Participate in Rotary, school, and community activities • Learn language and culture • Adapt to host family • Perform well in school • Communicate Issues • Maintain health insurance • Keep track of Passport, Visa, and I-94 • Obtain return airline ticket
