  2. The Beginning • Born in Seville, Spain. • Birth date and baptism was June 6, 1599.

  3. Teens • Studied art with Fransisco Pacheco • Later married his daughter at age 19 • He then went to Madrid

  4. Paintings • Velázquez’s paintings include: • Landscapes • Mythological and religious subjects • Scenes from common life • Genre pictures

  5. Royal Office • Along with painting, royal offices also occupied his time. • Eventually, he was made marshal of the royal household. • As such, he was responsible for the royal quarters and planning ceremonies. • His greatest and last planned ceremony was the wedding of the Infanta Maria Theresa to Louis XIV of France.

  6. Death • After being worn out of his many duties, Velázquez died of a fever on August 6, 1660
