  2. Task 1P1 – Have you completed it all? Research the components of a balanced diet. 1Complete a set of reference cards that explain how each component is vital for growth and development. • This should include: nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, fibre and water. 2 Produce a Poster on The balance of good health: • Show that you understand relative proportions of five food groups: protein: meat, fish and alternatives; milk and dairy food; fruit and vegetables; foods containing fats/sugar; carbohydrates: bread, other cereals and potatoes 3Prepare an A4 glossary sheet of definitions that could be placed by the till. You need to start your list with: • intake • needs • dietary reference values • energy balance • nutrient deficiencies • Malnutrition

  3. Task 3: Think about it .... In what ways might dietary needs vary at each life stage? Life stage • Conception/womb • Infancy • Childhood • Adolescence • Adulthood • Old Age Specific Dietary needs

  4. Task 2 Research the components of a balanced diet at all life stages. • This should include: nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, fibre and water. This should include: • Make a wheel of life or timeline showing the different life stages and the components of a balanced diet needed at each life stage. • diet of pregnant woman, • diet of babies – breast feeding, formula feeding, weaning • diets of children and adolescence – components to support growth and high energy output, weight management; • diets of adults (& old age) – decreased energy levels, according to lifestyle, occupation, activity levels, weight management. • You must use your resource in shared area for this task!

AFL • What have you achieved so far in Unit 11? • Does you work in Health & Soc Care class show you have been consistently been on task in lessons? • Do you think you will meet your deadlines easily in H & Soc Care? • Set yourself 3 targets for the rest of the term. • What things could you improve on in this subject?

  6. Extension – Task 4 • In a a pair (if possible) discuss which medical conditions can be related to unbalanced diets. Make own notes during the discussion and then make a list of these medical conditions (P3) • Choose two of the conditions and research how unbalanced diets can contribute to the development of them. • Using your research produce a leaflet for the canteen workers and learners on the dietary aspects of these medical conditions. • USE RESOURCE FILE PLEASE!
