  2. What is Cri Du Chat? • Cri Du Chat is a rare genetic disease that occurs in the birth of infants. Affects of Cri Du Chat are: • Feeding Problems (because of difficulty swallowing) • Light weight at birth • Speech Delays • Behavioral Problems • Uncommon Facial Traits

What You Should Know • Cri Du Chat only affects 1 in 37,000-50,000 births • Cri Du Chat is more common in boys than girls (2 to 1 ratio) • Cri Du Chat can also cause mental issues throughout the child’s life • You can tell if a child has Cri Du Chat if their cry at birth is high-pitched and sounds like a kitten • Most likely the father carries the defect more than the mother

  5. Is There A Cure? For many years researches have been searching for a way to prevent Cri Du Chat. Sadly, they’ve not come up with a cure and probably never will. You see, Cri Du Chat is caused by a deletion (missing information) on chromosome 5 which is generally a genetic accident. Therefore, it may be impossible to create a cure. (In shorter terms, it is just caused by a missing chromosome)
