The next three - six months In the coming months: • Software developers to start to offer more SBR enabled services out to the market • Agencies to continue to move toward implementing digital services that include SBR But, most importantly: • Digital Transformation Office to develop a business case for future SBR
The next three - six months Specific agencies we are actively engaged with include: • Customs – facilitating international trade (trusted trader program) • Department Education – around Schools & Youth / Higher Education / Skills & Training • Australian Bureau of Statistics – undertaking a SBR pilot around their surveys • ASIC – have made available an iXBL messaging format so business can replace info currently submitted by PDF • Petroleum Data – working to agree on industry standard • ACT Government – their iConnect program and transformation of their revenue system • NSW Government – part of their Service NSW transformation for business • WGEA – looking to offer their annual reporting requirement from employers greater than 100 employers via SBR • ACFA – have established SBR processes, looking to include in SBR Taxonomy • DHS – continuing work on their Child Support System • ATO – Single Touch Payroll will be via SBR
SBR forum • The SBR Board endorsed a proposal to establish a national software developer consultative forum • All agencies that are represented on our Board have been approached to participant • the forum would provide a co-ordinated approach to engaging with the software industry and a mechanism for obtaining software industry input into government initiatives • Members would discuss government direction and priorities relevant to the software industry • The forum would not replace or manage agency consultation with the software industry at an operational level • We are now working to align this with the DTO.
Patent update We have published the following: “The ATO obtained, for its own purposes, confidential legal advice on whether two innovation patent applications (No. 2013100837 and No. 2014100224) affected the ATO’s ongoing operation of the whole-of-government SBR program and provision of SBR services. While those patents have now been certified, the ATO’s assessment remains that its SBR program and SBR services is not infringed by those patents. Software providers and developers should make their own assessments of whether they are affected by the scope of those patents, and if concerned, should seek their own legal advice.” Refer: sbr.gov.au
