MAJOR MOTIVATORS OF PEOPLE MONEY Material lust – Some want ;money for what it will buy. Power lust – Some want it in order to feel superior to others Fear – Some are afraid of being poor or going hungry. Social lust – Some desperately want to fit into the upper class.
POWER • Some have an inclination to dominate others. • Power makes them feel more important or superior to others. • They often seek careers that are more authority oriented; law enforcement, military, judges, coaches, inspectors, bureaucrats, politics • They derive pleasure by forcing their will over others. • These people are inflexible, rude, harsh, and inconsiderate. • People will use whatever they have to exert power: brains, brawn, beauty, family name,
APPROBATION • Some want to be liked above all else • They cannot handle rejection or criticism. • They thrive on praise or even flattery. • There is nothing they won’t do to please others or to be accepted. • These people fail miserably when put in positions of authority.
SEX • Some people live for sex. • They do not control their sexual urges. • They are constantly anticipating their next sexual encounter. • Their own physical gratification is supreme and they cannot be trusted. • Normal sex in marriage does not satisfy them so they seek more partners and more bizarre encounters.
ALCOHOL, DRUGS, & FOOD • Some people live for their next drink, their next fix or their nest binge. • They are slaves to their addiction. • Their addiction destroys their body. • Addiction is not the real problem, it is a symptom of the real problem. • The addiction cannot be broken until the real problem is addressed.
PLEASURE • For some, life is all about the pursuit of pleasure. • Having fun is the god of the “party hearty” crowd. • A person can become addicted to having fun. ex. video games, sports, T.V. etc. • Some neglect their responsibilities in order to have fun. 1 Thes. 4:11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you;
REVENGE • Some people are extremely angry, their goal in life is to get even with someone. • Their thoughts are consumed with how they will make someone pay for what they did. • They have bought into the lie that they can derive happiness from someone else’s unhappiness. • They are unaware of, or have ignored the fact that God has forbidden us to seek revenge. Romans 12:19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord.
CRUSADING • The life mission for some is to change the world. • Some try to whitewash the devil’s world by crusading. • This is manifested sometimes through activism including civil disobedience. 4. Radical environmentalists, anti-abortion fanatics, P.E.T.A., etc. fall into this category. 4 5. Muslims are taught that they should be on a crusade to convert the world to Islam and to kill infidels who refuse to submit to Allah.
