  2. Family • Born in Grantham, England on October 13, 1925 • Mother- Beatrice Roberts, dressmaker • Father- Alfred Roberts, local politician, minister and mayor • Sister- Muriel Roberts, 4 years older

  3. Intelligent/Well-educated • Enrolled in Somerville College at 17. • Graduated with a B.S. degree in 1947. • Worked as a research chemist for 4 years after graduation.

  4. Caring • Had 2 kids with husband Denis Thatcher. • During her 3rd term(1987-1992), planned to work on health care & education, among other things.

  5. Perseverance • Elected first female president of the Oxford University Conservation Association in 1946.

  6. Fun-Facts • Mother made sure she was always “well-dressed” and “well-groomed.” • Often accompanied her father to political meetings. • Queen Elizabeth II bestowed upon her a lifetime peerage as Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven.
