  2. Why No Huddle System • Simplifies defensive fronts and adjustments • Limits defensive substitutions • Dictates the pace of game • Limits defensive recognition • Adds to opponent’s practice time How it effects the defensive unit and coaching staff

  3. Why No-Huddle System • Limits the wear on offensive linemen • Increases your practice reps • Improves your two-minute drill • Can extend game and increase the number of offensive plays • Builds unit confidence and pride How it effects the offensive unit and coaching staff

  4. Procedural Considerations • Personnel Groups • Name the groups – Bee, Wasp, Jacket… • Number system – 21, 11, 10… • Who is in charge of signaling and running groups • How to signal it • Word association • Body Clock • 2 Hand Number

  5. Procedural Considerations • Formations • Name the formations – Doubles, Ace, Trips… • Add backfield adjustments – Strong, Weak, Wing… • R & L word formations – River/Lake, Randy/Larry.. • Number system – 1, 2, 3, 4… • Signal for formation strength

  6. Procedural Consideration • Motions • Who is motioning – RB, WR, TE… • How are they motioning • Across the ball • In toward the ball • Away from the ball • Into the backfield • Why are they motioning • Motion to assignment

  7. Signaling Play Call • Signal to QB only • QB translates signal into call for all others • Signal to all Skill players • QB translates signal into call for just oline • Signal to all players • Signal whole play or pieces

Signaling Play Call • Word Association • Power, Belly, Outside Zone • Number Series System • 10= QB run, 20= TB run, 30= 3 step pass, 40= Screens, 50= 5 step pass • Wrist Band Number System • 3 numbers – calls on wristband • 2 numbers – 1st number column 2nd row • 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05… 1 hand signal • Add third number as dumby

QB to OL Code Words • Separate into Families • Run Game – Car Companies – IZ=Chevy, OZ=Dodge • Play Action Pass – Cars – IZ Play Action = Tahoe, OZ Play Action = Dakota • Pass Protection – Animals – 3 step = Pony 5 step = Stallion • Screens – Natural Phenomena – Bubble = Thunder, Tunnel = Lightning • Right or Left • R / L Code Words – Rip/Liz, Roger/Louie, Razor/Laser… • Directional Codes – Male/Female, Pro/Con, Up/Down… • School/Mascot – Toledo/Rockets, BG/Falcons

Utilizing Tempos • 3 Distinct Tempos • Hurry Up / Indy – Snap within first 5 seconds of play clock • May limit your personnel groups, formations, motions and play calls • Normal / Attack – Snap the ball as soon as possible • Use all personnel groups, formations, motions and all play calls • Look / Peek – Built-in advantage check system • Align quick and examine the defense • Choose to run play or advantage check

Cadence Considerations • Indy Tempo Cadence • Must be quick • Not a lot of time to change play • Foot pump or Simple “Go”, “Hike” • Attack Tempo Cadence • Should have a good amount of time • Build in QB advantage check possibilities • Need to be able to vary cadence in this tempo • Multiple foot pumps, “Color #” system • Peek Tempo Cadence • Must get aligned quick • Build in a point in the cadence to peek for play change • After first foot pump • After first “Color, #”
