  1. Guidelines to pray for the church It is important to note that when we study the state of the church, our AIM IS NEVER to criticise, but to yield our hearts and join Christ in intercession who make these things known to us. Therefore – if you notice some instances to be true of your own life and/or leaders or your congregation – it is for this very reason that we pray for God’s will to be established - NOT to join Satan in accusation, BUT Christ in intercession.

  3. Mission 24-7 • When Satan interferes: Nehemiah • When God intervenes: Fire from heaven • When the Church intercedes • Put God back in the centre (Rev.2:1-7) • Stand after a spiritual assault (Rev.2:8-11) • Stand amidst trials & persecution (Rev.2:8-11) • Recognising witchcraft in the church (Rev.2:12-29) • Dead or alive? (Rev.3:1-6) • Take up your keys and fight (Rev.3:7-12) • Let the fire never go out (Rev.3:13-22)

  4. Rev 3:14 Laodicea: 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. … because you are luke warm, … I will vomit you out of My mouth. … you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. IF ANYONE hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

  5. Ways we learn in life • History • Example • Wise counsel • Experience

  6. Reposition your thinking • Laodicea means just peopleor justiceofthepeopleor the rule of the people and suggests a democratic church that no longer follows spiritual leaders or the authority of the Word of God. • The city of Laodicea was known for its • Wool – physical outside appearance • Wealth – physical possessions • Medicine – physical power

  7. Reposition your thinking • They had lost their vigor (vv. 16–17). In the Christian life, there are three “spiritual temperatures”: a burning heart, on fire for God (Luke 24:32), a cold heart (Matt. 24:12), and a luke warm heart (Rev. 3:16). • They had lost their values (vv. 17–18a). They had become proud of their ministry and had begun to measure things by human standards instead of by spiritual values. – Needed gold – true riches. • They had lost their vision (v. 18b). Jesus was now outside the door – they lost their concern for a lost world. – Needed eye salve – spiritual vision. • They had lost their vesture (vv. 17–22). To be naked meant to be defeated and humiliated (2 Sam. 10:4; Isa. 20:1–4). - Needed white garments – spiritual covering.

  8. GOLD / GARMENTS / EYE SALVE • Time in intimacy – (worship/being with God) • Time in the Word • Reading • Studying • Contemplating (meditate/think upon) • Journaling/keeping notes • Time in intersession • Yourself / family / friends • City/town/community • Country – issues of the day • World – nations of the earth (a) Salvation (b) Issues of the day

  9. EYE SALVE • Vision – purpose of my life • Revelation – insight in matters • Christ revealed – understanding gospel • God at work – believe works He does • Holy Spirit in action – recognize supernatural organizing of matters

  10. HIS GARMENTS • Isa 59:16-17 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.

  11. MY GARMENTS • Isa 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. • Isa 61:3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…

  12. HEAVENLY GARMENTS Eph 6:11-18 Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand … and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

  13. HOW TO PRAY FOR THE CHURCH • That the church would recognise and honour Christ as the AMEN – fulfilment of all things. • That she would recognise in Him and desire for herself to be faithful and a true witness. • That she would declare Him as the Beginning of the creation of God – the One through whom all things that are has come into being. • That she would know that He knows everything she does, and especially that He sees her spiritual condition for what it truly is.

  14. HOW TO PRAY FOR THE CHURCH • That she would realise & admit through the working of the Holy Spirit her true spiritual condition. • That she would know that He has a DESIRE for her to choose for or against Him, rather than living a middle-of-the-range life. – Usually Christ says that He would judge with the words of His mouth. • That she would despise being luke-warm as much as He does and cry out to Him to stir her up for His purposes and desires. • That she would come to desire true riches and not only accept as truth what she wants.

  15. HOW TO PRAY FOR THE CHURCH • That she would begin to cry out to Him to grant her healing from blindness, from poverty, from misery and nakedness. • That she would desire to buy gold from Him and so obtain true riches. • That she would buy from Him white garments and so be clothed spiritually. • That she would receive healing from blindness to see things in the spirit as they truly are. • That she would give praise for His rebuke and chastisement – for it is to her salvation. • That she would not withdraw and make Him out to be a horrible God who punishes for no reason at all, but see His heart for her spiritual condition to be changed.

  16. HOW TO PRAY FOR THE CHURCH • That true zeal would befall her through the working of the Holy Spirit, so she may become zealous for His house. • That she may know His goodness that leads her to repentance. • That she would respond to His invitation, heeding His voice when He comes close to her heart. • That she would learn how to let Him in and be at peace and rest with His close-up presence. If you know someone – they are not nervous when they physically/emotionally come close to you. • That she would find grace to overcome this luke-warm condition. For those burning with zeal will be granted to sit with the Father on His throne.
