Who we are----Our vision and mission • The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world's largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions.
Founded in 1919, the International Federation comprises 186 member Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, a Secretariat in Geneva and more than 60 delegations strategically located to support activities around the world. There are more societies in formation. The Red Crescent is used in place of the Red Cross in many Islamic countries.

Southern Africa floods operation January 2008 • Mozambique Red Cross (MRC) boat volunteer Pascoa Joaquim, 26, reputedly the only woman in the village who can swim, stands in the prow of her MRC aquatic-rescue launch during training. Mozambican marines and MRC volunteers have been taking advantage of an apparent break in the rains upstream in the Buzi river system to hone their aquatic-rescue skills. Buzi is the national base for aquatic-rescue training by the Red Cross in Mozambique.
