  1. What is the Bible? The Bible is NOT: • Not a history book • But it does contain history • Not a biography • But it does contain biographical material • Not fiction (made up) • But it does contain elements of good fiction • Love, sex, violence, murder, betrayal, heroes, miracles, battles, spies, etc.

  2. The Bible is: • It is an account of a people’s (the Israelites) faith journey. • It is an account of a people’s experience of God. • Bible is made up of many different writings or “books”. • Biblical authors used various literary forms when writing the books of the bible: • Ancient myths, legends, Royal court histories, letters, poems, songs, genealogies (family trees), sermons, worship instructions, laws, visions and stories. • Took over 1000 years for the Old Testament to be written.
