World War One • World War One started because Archduke Franz Ferdinard [heir to Austrian throne] was killed by a Serbian on 28th of June 1914.Britain went over to fight Germany, but Australian Prime Minister pledged for full support for Britain. Australia's involvement for the Great War included the Navy and Military Force. • Australian Imperial Force [AIF] landed at Gallipoli with New Zealand, Britain and France on the 25th of April 1915around 4:30.

  3. World War One • How it ended • Thewar ended by Australia slowly making their way from Gallipoli and getting shipped away. The ANZAC’s were clever by making it seems like they were staying by rigging riffles and wrapping their boots in sandbags. • World War One started in 1914 and ended in 1919

  4. Where is Gallipoli? • Gallipoli is in Turkey which is in the Middle East. • Gallipoli was important to Australia because it was their first world war also they wanted to get through Gallipoli to get to Russia to fight the Germans. As they were a part of the commonwealth.

  5. What ANZAC mean? • What does ANZAC mean? • ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corps. • Where did the name ANZAC originate? • The name ANZAC was used in many diaries of commanders so then people used the name ANZAC for the Australian and New Zealand troops.

  6. How do we commemorate ANZAC Day? Why is a poppy worn on ANZAC Day? What is a war memorial? A war memorial is a statue that has the names of the soldiers who went to war. A poppy is worn on ANZAC Day because poppies grew in Flanders Fields near the battlefields, also the soldiers put poppies on the graves of the dead soldiers.

  7. How do we commemorate ANZAC Day? What is the Ode? Why is important? What is the Last Post? Where did it originate? The Last Post is a tune that is played on a bugle. It was played to signify the end of the dayduring the war. • The Ode is a poem that was written by an English poet Laurence Binyon. Every year on ANZAC Day the Ode is read followed by the Last Post. • Ode- They shall not grow old As we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. at the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

  8. Why do we commemorate ANZAC Day? When do we commemorate ANZAC Day? We commemorate ANZAC Day on the 25th of April every year. Why is it commemorated on this day? We celebrate it on this day because on this day 97 years ago the Australian and New Zealand troops landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

  9. My thought on ANZAC Day To celebrate ANZAC Day my family and I made ANZAC biscuits, and wore an ANZAC badge. My feelings on ANZAC Day are grateful for all the soldiers that fought for our country and sad thinking about what they had to go through.

  10. My family stories • My great, great uncle Leslie Stuart David Neave went to Greece in 1941 to fight in World War Two. He died that year on the 8th of August from injuries while being in a prison camp, he didn’t get to see much war. • My other great, great uncle Don Roy Neave went to Indonesia to fight but they were attacked when they arrived at Ambon Island. Don died on the 20th of July 1945 therefore he didn’t see much of the war.
