  3. AP Course Guidelines • Note: Any student can enroll in an AP / Pre-AP course at any time in their academic career. As long as they are willing to accept the additional academic challenge, rigor and course work. • Advance Placement is designed to prepare a student for success in Higher Education. Teacher expectations and course requirements closely follow the prescribed College Boards regulations and Guidelines. • All course Syllabi are submitted by the teacher and must to approved by the College Board, before they can be used in an AP Class.

  4. AP Curriculum • Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available in the following content areas: • English • Social Studies • Science • Math • Foreign Language • Art

  5. AP / Pre-AP English Course Sequence: Pre-AP English I: 9th grade Pre-AP English II: 10th grade AP English Language: 11th grade AP English Literature: 12th grade

  6. AP / Pre-AP Social Studies Required Course Sequence: Pre-AP World Geography or AP Human Geography: 9th grade ** Based on 8th Grade SS TAKS** AP World History: 10th grade AP US History: 11th grade AP US Government (.5) and AP Macro Economics (.5): 12th grade

AP / Pre-AP Social Studies • Research Requirement • Per Social Studies TEKS, students must complete an in-depth research project. • 9th: Multiple Class Projects • 10th – 11th: History Fair • 12th: Class Projects • Failure to complete projects based on provided guidelines = possible failure of the class and loss of credit. 2011 National History Day Theme Diplomacy and Dialogue in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences

  8. AP / Pre-AP Science Course Sequence: Pre-AP Biology: 9th grade Pre-AP Chemistry: 10th grade Pre-AP Physics (required) and AP Biology or AP Chemistry: 11th grade AP Biology, AP Chemistry or AP Physics: 12th grade

Pre-AP Geometry and Pre-AP Biology Supply List • Binder (2-3”) • Dividers (for binder) • 2-Composition Books • Loose Notebook Paper • 24 Pencils • Black/Blue/Red Pens • Kleenex • Pencil Bag • Erasers • Small ruler (must have centimeters and inches) • Permanent Markers • Map colors • Small Scissors • Protractor - Pre-AP Geometry Only • Gloves (non-latex) – Pre-AP Biology Only

  10. AP & Pre-AP Mathematics Typical Sequence with Algebra 1 in Middle School Pre-AP Geometry: 9th grade Pre-AP Algebra 2: 10th grade Pre-Calculus: 11th grade (Dual Credit or Pre-AP) AP Statistics: 11th or 12th grade AP Calculus: 12th grade

  11. AP & Pre-AP Mathematics Geometry and Algebra 2 can be taken concurrently. Pre-Calculus must be taken before Calculus. Homework expectations
