STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:Implementing IPADS INTO THE CLASSROOM Sophia W. Nieto July 28, 2013 EDTC 3332.01 Instructional Technology Practicum
Needs assessment • Technology is implemented everyday in today’s society. At this moment, educators are using computers, overhead projectors, Elmo projectors, and print material to instruct and engage students in the lecture they give. The educators should have updated technology for their lectures. The purpose of this training is to instruct every educator, paraprofessional, and staff member on how to use iPads for educational purposes.
Needs assessment • At the education setting, educators are provided with overhead projectors, Elmo projectors, computers, and print material. What should be available is the latest technology which is the iPads. • The knowledge educators will acquire will help them use various applications for the subject they teach. • The educators will also acquire how to use the tools that are imbedded in the iPad itself.
Needs assessment • My recommendation would to have the latest technology in the classrooms. Students use their mobile devices in and out of the classrooms. Why not bring the iPads into the classroom so students will interact with the material the educator has provided. • This training will help the educator use the iPad immediately after receiving their iPads in the classroom
Instructional goal • After completing this training, the educators, paraprofessionals, and staff members will be able to turn it on and use the tools imbedded in the iPad. • After completing this training, educators, paraprofessionals, and staff members will be able to download various applications and interact with the app for the subject they teach.
Performance objectives • Objective #1 • Using the iPad (CN), the learner will turn on the iPad (B) with 100% accuracy (CR) • Objective #2 • Using the iPad (CN), the learner will navigate through the settings (B) with 90% accuracy (CR) • Objective #3 • Using the iPad (CN), the learner will download applications to the iPad (B) with 90% accuracy (CR)
Performance objectives • Objective #4 • Using the iPad (CN), the learner will use the application downloaded (B) with 90% accuracy (CR) • Objective #5 • Using the iPad (CN), the learner will download e-books to the iPad for their classroom (B) with 90% accuracy (CR) • Objective #6 • Using the iPad (CN), the learner will write notes in the notes section of the iPad (B) with 90% accuracy
Learner characteristics • The target audience for this training is all educators, paraprofessionals, and staff members including administration ranging from ages 20 to 65. • The learner would need the basic knowledge of the iPad such as how it looks. • The additional information that would be necessary for the training would be to have the latest iPad.
Learner context • The training will primarily take place in the workplace setting. It would be at one of the high schools located in Brownsville, TX. • An iPad for every educator at the high school with Wi-Fi connection will also meet the training needs. • If the workplace is not provided to the presenter and learner, then the public library will do.

The learner will also receive a reference covering the material that was covered in this training • Assessment • The learner will be provided a quick assessment where they will work in small groups to provide and help each other understand the iPad better. A quiz is provided to the learner to test their knowledge. The next two slides contain the quiz that will be provided to the learner.
Instructional resources • The learner will required to have the following: • iPad--this will be provided at the time of the training • Wi-Fi Connection--presenter will speak to the Technology Specialist to set up the Wi-Fi connection • Overhead projector • A stylus (optional)
Formative evaluation • An outside expert will serve as the Subject Matter Expert. This expert will help in any questions the learner has at the time of the training. The Subject Matter Expert will also leave their contact information just in case the learner has a question after the training is completed. A small group evaluation will also take place at the training. The learners will be placed in small groups. Once the information is provided to them, they will navigate with no interruptions using the iPad. This is to see if the leaner understood the information provided through the training. • The feedback from the Subject Matter Expert and the small group evaluation will help me to determine if more information is needed or changes need to be made in the training. If changes need be, then maybe breaking up the learners into different training times by the subject they teach.
summary • By completing this training, the learner should be able to use the iPad with little to no difficulty. The learner should be able to take the knowledge that was provided to them and engage their students with the app they chose to use for the subject they teach. The learner should have fun and try various apps to suit the student’s wants and needs. • The iPad will serve as an great innovative tool to use in the classroom. Students will be more engage in the material and learning will be fun.
