Bush vs. Gore • Gore demanded a recount due to ballets being uncounted for in Florida • On December 12 the supreme court said that 7-2 votes that were hand recounts were invalid • The equal protection clause argued that the recount did not treat all voters equally so they stopped the recount. • On January 20, 2001 George W. Bush became the 43rd president of the United States. • Bush promised to improve public schools, cut taxes, reformed social security and Medicare.
