  6. “causes for Eutrophication”

  7. Problems created by Eutrophication

  8. Problems created by Eutrophication • By the reduction in oxygen it impossible to survive for fish and any other animals. • Color, smell, and water treatment problems. • Dissolved oxygen depletion. • increase in fish kills. • decreases the value of rivers for fishing , hunting, for recreation. • Not only for fish it is also harmful for human health.

  9. Eutrophication • Etrophication causes the loss of oxygen in water

  13. Thesis

  14. Sources of nutrient runoff Point SOURCES Non-point SOURCES

  15. Agriculture • Fertilizer and irrigation water management • Fertilizer • High yield relies on N fertilizers • Responsibility is largely on farmers, not citizens • Needs to be a gradual change • Changes will not change overall yield (Iowa)

  16. Sewage Management • Traditional sludge treatment does not remove P and N • Required to treat recycled water before it reaches water • Process treats sludge in anoxic conditions, releasing elemental N and P, clearing it from the waste • Creates solid and liquid waste, which can be removed from water discharge (US 4522722) • Plants need to meet a quota of N and P levels before it is released

  17. THANK YOU!
