SEE Grid Information Services Roadmap Dr Rob Woodcock CSIRO
Context • XMML information model developed BUT it needs to be used to achieve business outcomes • Require a Community to use it to perform business functions • SEE Grid is the vehicle being used to foster the development of a Community of Practice
What is the IS Roadmap project? “This project aims to demonstrate the potential uses and benefits arising from the interoperability of distributed, pre-competitive geospatial data and web enabled access.” “The project will provide SMEs and other industry users with improved access to geoscience information, analytical and interoperability tools which will potentially reduce exploration risk and encourage investment and cost effective recovery within the Australian mining industry.” --- from the AusIndustry project schedule
SEE Grid IS Roadmap • What? • Geoscience information access grid • XMML (etc) is the payload • Why? • Web-based on-demand data transfer, directly loadable • download from agencies • Marketplace in data and service provision • use best data to constrain interpretations and models • use best provider of processing/modelling servicesregardless of where data and user resides • How? • SEE Grid CoP IS Roadmap
SEE Grid Roadmap • Part A • Roadmap document, describes architecture, teases out relevant standards, indicates required activities, necessary participants • Completes 31st May 2004 • Part B • Small scale test bed/demonstrator. Aiming for reference implementation • Completes 30th November 2004 • Part C • Workshop – assessment of outcomes • Completes 31 March 2005
Details for Part B • WFS Implementation – June 30th • Merge Open Source WFS software capabilities • Geoserver – OGC “reference implementation” • Integrate enhancements: • standard method for easy configuration to support community schema • support for “standard” information models • standard packaging for installation in agencies etc • Demonstration deployment – Nov 30th • 3 data sources • 1 processing service • 1 Web client interface on data portal • Possible Software Vendor/Mining company clients
Today’s Activities • Take a look at Roadmap viewpoints • Note that understanding anyone viewpoint completely requires you to understand all the others • Two things to give feedback on: • Reality check… • Sustainability…
