  5. “Representasyon ng Pagkalalaki sa Pelikulang Bakbakan ni FPJ” Rommel B. Rodriguez

  6. There is a common denominator in most of FPJ films - the dominance of ‘alpha males.’ From different portrayals such as being a policeman to being a father, masculinity is evident. • There is a clear boundary between the characters of the protagonist and antagonist. The protagonist is always depicted as a ‘good’ guy at first but ends up being the one who prevails in violence. The antagonist is always defeated by the main character. • Love interest is a bonus.

  7. Black Manila: A short overview • The documentary is set at Smokey 2 • The main livelihood of people in the complex is charcoal making • The documentary derives perspectives from a young girl, a Dutch woman, a young boy, and an entrepreneur

  8. “A representation of the poor” • Smokey Mountain is the ultimate representation of poverty in the country. • Proximity to garbage dumps, dirty jobs, and child labor are just common things that are associated with poverty in the country. • The shots are focused in the scenery rather than the host and the people.

  9. Narrative • A young girl • A Dutch woman • A man

  10. SOUND Melodic music can be heard in the background Faster dark melodies for proving a point Light piano music for exposition and scenic shots MISE- EN-SCENE Landscape shots are used The clothing of the people are tattered and they are covered in soot Natural lighting and shots in the shadows
