Recent Advancement In Pervasive Computing A PRESENTATION ON RACIT-2011 PRESENTED BY Shalu Gupta guptashalu900@gmail.com Shivani Sharma sharshiv@hotmail.com DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE ARYA INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Contents Definition Introduction Vision and Challenges Recent Technologies Cons and Pros Conclusion
Definition Pervasive Computing is a computing technology that spread the user’s environment that make use of seamless connectivity of multiple independent information devices embedded in the environment of the users.
Introduction Anytime/Anywhere Any Device Any Network Any Data
Another Perspective It may also be seen as the technology that is a combination of -: Personal computing technology Internetworking technology Invisible computing technology Wearable computing technology Mobile computing technology
Vision and Challenges • User intent • Cyber foraging • Adaption strategy • Client thickness • Context awareness • Transparency • Privacy
Recent Technologies Their are four fields in which pervasive computing is increasing rapidly. They are-: • Mobile Computing • Embedded and Applied computing • RFID and Sensors • Mobile and sensor networking
Mobile Computing • Sky scout is used to locate , identify and provide information about celestial body. Fig : SKY SCOUT • Nokia n71 from xpress music family offers all the music format with some extra formats such as aac, eaac, wma, jpeg and many more.. Fig: Nokia n71
Embedded & Applied computing • Another name for electronic paper. Rollable display simplifies reading to great extent. Fig : Rollable display • performs all the function similar to human arm and can even sense the touch. Fig : Bionic Arm
Embedded & Applied computing • the fridge with no shelves ,no doors is now here. It protects the food from being spoiled and also don’t allow smell to spread around other articles. • Fig : Robotic Fridge
Mobile and sensors networking • These houses are able to clean themselves . • Each floor consist of dust replant and anti bacterial. • Such houses are expected after 20 years from now. • Fig: Self Cleaning House
MEMS and RFID Tags • Micro Electronic Mechanical system. Mems are the platform that allow such robots to be build. • Fig: MEMS • Radio frequency integrated tags are soon going to replace bar code within five years as suggested by IFT(Institute of Food Technology). • Fig: RFID Tags
Cons and Pros • PROS • Invisible • Socialism • Decision-making • Emergent behavior • Enhancing Experience
Cons and Pros(contd…) • CONS • Less economical • May cause side effects • Privacy issues • Risk of being tracked when using computers
Conclusion Pervasive computing in brief is-: ‘where you want, when you want, what you want and how you want’ services to users. Although it is difficult to habituate them in our daily life due to it’s complexity. The only hope is that in near future such technologies will become customary to common men.
