  2. GPT, GUID Partition Table. (GUID, Globallyuniqueidentifier) • Den udbredte MBR (Master Boot Record) partitionsopsætning stammer fra begyndelsen af 1980'erne. Den har nogle begrænsninger, som påvirker anvendelsen af moderne hardware. Intel udviklede derfor en ny partition tableformat i slutningen af 1990'erne. • GPT udgør fra 2010 en delmængde af UEFI specifikationen. • MBR max. 2,2 TB (2,2 × 1012 bytes) • max. 4 primære partitioner • Alle OS • GPT max. 9,4 ZB (9,4 × 10²¹bytes) • max. 128 partitioner • EFI (BIOS) en forudsætning • OS fra windows XP 64bit og til i dag
