Dawson’s Ltd. is a small business that makes a range of furniture. The business has been doing well recently and the owners wish to computerise the ordering process. The ordering process currently begins when the Sales staff passes on an enquiry from a customer to the Order department (Order Entry System). The Orders department prepare a quotation using a price file and returns a quotation to Sales. A record of the quoted price is held in the quotation file. The quotation is sent to the customer. The customer will send an order to the Order department. The order is given a number and entered into an order file. The Order department uses details on the order file to create an acknowledgement, which is sent to the customer, and to create a works order, which is sent to the Production department.
Hammer Hardware is an independent hardware store. The manager, who employs two members of staff, owns the shop. Customers may purchase products and in some cases will be asked to give their personal details for warranty purposes. Customers may also make enquiries about products, regarding availability, price etc. Suppliers will provide, invoice for such products and chase for payment where necessary. They will also be able to answer questions from the shop staff regarding products, delivery dates and invoices. The shop staff will also be responsible for checking incoming products against order forms.
