About Field Experiences • Approximately 500 placements each semester • Diversity • Socio-economic status • Ethnic diversity • Special needs students • English Language Learners
Policies • All placements made through Office of Field Experiences (NB 1014) • Each completed at a different location • No placements in schools where there are relatives • Recent high school graduates initially avoid high schools • Save “home” schools for student teaching • Placements for daytime classes generally made in Lawton
Policies • Must complete entire field experience to receive passing grade • May have to complete additional experience for courses transferred from another university
Completing the Request Form • One form per placement • Special considerations • Transportation • Schedule constraints • Available times • Pay attention to school hours • Avoid lunches and only Fridays • At least 1 hour per visit
How Placements are Made • Student completes request form • Dr. Glazer reviews form • Request for placement sent to schools/district for approval (times available & additional information as needed) • Request approved by teacher and principal • Approval sent to Dr. Glazer • Assignment delivered to student
Contacts GO TO: Course Instructor GO TO: Dr. Glazer Written appeal of placement location • Ask questions about assignments • Express concerns about observations • Obtain copy of verification/ evaluation form • Return verification/ evaluation form
Going to the Schools • Attempt to contact teacher by phone • Determine teacher’s free period and stop by the school at that time • Negotiate times to observe with the teacher • After hours are complete have teacher complete verification/evaluation form
While in the Schools • Dress professionally • Cover tattoos; remove excess piercings • No revealing clothing • No cell phones! • Sign in at the office during each visit • Spring semester • Complete observations before testing begins (April 16)
